GPS III SV09 is a U.S. Space Force Global Positioning System navigation satellite (the ninth spacecraft in the GPS Block III series) intended to provide positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services as part of the GPS constellation in medium Earth orbit. GPS Block III satellites introduce updated signal capabilities compared to earlier generations, including improved military signal features (such as M-code) and civil signal support including L1C. SV09 carries the name “Ellison Onizuka” in honor of astronaut Col. Ellison Onizuka.
